On March 29, He Yulong, President of the Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, led a team of members and clinical experts to the laboratory to discuss issues concerning the acceleration of full cooperation between the two sides. Academician Wu Yun-Dong, Laboratory Executive Vice Director, Hu Xiaojun, Head of the Party Committee, Tu Huan, Vice Director, and Wu Feng, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Committee, attended the meeting, and Principal Investigators from related fields participated in the discussion online and offline. The meeting was presided over by Academician Wu Yun-Dong.

Wu Yun-Dong introduced the research layout direction of the laboratory and shared his hope that through enhanced communication, new ideas would collide and in-depth cooperation would be carried out in scientific research cooperation, dual employment of talents and student training. He Yulong expressed his hope that the staff of both sides would further link up, enabling investigators to take to the podium while dispatching doctors into the laboratories, striving to deploy in each area and promoting the realization of a collaborative model of clinical-basic research-clinical to further contribute to medical progress.

Investigators from both sides then discussed in-depth research projects concerning molecular imaging, digestive system tumour prevention and treatment, and the construction of clinical medical centers. Dr. Niu Tianye and Dr. Xie Siwei of the laboratory introduced the scientific progress in PET/CT and other aspects respectively, Vice Director Zhang Changhua of Seventh Affiliated Hospital of SYSU introduced the construction of Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Research on Prevention and Treatment of Malignant Tumours of the Digestive System, and Dr. Cui Yongping of the laboratory introduced the latest scientific progress of research on prevention and treatment of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, a major research project undertaken for Guangdong Province. Vice Director Pan Yihang of Seventh Affiliated Hospital of SYSU introduced the layout of clinical research in the Hospital and hoped to promote the development of clinical medical research together with Shenzhen Bay Laboratory. At the meeting, both sides reached agreement on relevant scientific research cooperation, and will enhance the subsequent docking and in-depth exchanges to jointly promote the development of medical research in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
