From March 10 to 13, 2026, the “First China-France Joint Conference on Neurodegeneration and Secretion” co-hosted by the Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL) and the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm), was held at the Weiguang Life Science Park in Guangming, Shenzhen. The conference brought together nearly 30 leading experts from universities and research institutions in China and France in fields such as cell biology, neuroscience, membrane transport, and autophagy, as well as nearly 100 young scholars, for three days of in-depth exchanges and academic discussions on the cellular biological mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases.

The conference featured six major thematic sessions covering cutting-edge topics such as membrane transport, non-classical secretion, lysosomes and autophagy, mitochondrial function, and disease transmission, with a total of 34 high-level academic presentations. During the “Short Talk” session, five young scholars from leading institutions in China and France delivered excellent presentations on the latest research. A special “Speed Talk of Poster Presenters” session was also organized to provide a platform for young scholars to showcase their work. Dozens of graduate students and doctoral candidates from both China and France delivered efficient and engaging three-minute academic presentations on cutting-edge topics, fostering a lively atmosphere of on-site exchange.

On the morning of March 13, the Best Poster Award ceremony was held during the closing ceremony. Conference Chairs Yanzhuang Wang and Thierry Galli jointly presented certificates to the winners, recognizing their innovative research in the fields of cell biology and neuroscience. In his closing remarks, Yanzhuang Wang noted that the conference not only showcased the latest advances in neurodegenerative disease research in both China and France but also provided a valuable international exchange platform for young scholars. Thierry Galli extended an invitation on the spot, announcing that the next Sino-French joint conference is scheduled to take place in Paris in 2028, with the aim of continuing to promote in-depth cooperation between the two countries in the fields of organelle homeostasis, membrane transport, and neurodegenerative diseases.

The successful hosting of the first Sino-French International Symposium on Neurodegenerative Diseases and Secretion marks a new milestone in Sino-French cooperation in the field of basic biomedical research. Moving forward, SZBL will continue to collaborate with leading international research institutions to deepen collaborative innovation, jointly explore the mysteries of neurodegenerative diseases, and contribute more wisdom and strength to the cause of human health.
