September 1, the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBE) held its 2021 Fall Strategic Meeting. Attending this quarterly gathering were the laboratory leadership, all IBE members, and representatives from other research units. IBE Director Ren Qiushi presided over the meeting and briefed on the developments of IBE.

SZBL Executive Vice Director Wu Yun-Dong delivered a speech at the beginning of the meeting. He fully affirmed the achievements of IBE had attained so far and extended expectations for the institute’s next step of work. He hoped that IBE can further develop strengths in terms of national demands and deliver scientific results of economic and social values to support the strategic development of Shenzhen.

SZBL Party Secretary Hu Xiaojun said that he was excited to learn about the progress of IBE and hoped that the meeting would serve as a facilitator to the building of a sound academic ecosystem in the laboratory. Hu Xiaojun also spoke about the development of well-defined competencies and the improvement of innovation ability of IBE.

During the meeting, PIs from IBE research labs, including Tan Wenchang, Peng Qiyu, Niu Tianye, Wang Weimin, Guo Tengfei, Gu Zheng and Li Fenfang, shared thoughts on research leading topics and tendencies through the lens of their current practices. After the individual report session, participants continued to an in-depth discussion around the international landscape for research, laboratory development plan as well as related scientific questions.

IBE Director Ren Qiushi recapped on the meeting and pointed out that the purpose of such quarterly meetings is to enhance laboratory synergy and explore new ways for more cross-discipline and innovative practices. The one-day meeting facilitated direct dialogues and clarified orientation for the development of IBE, and built higher confidence for the IBE community to head for future progress.
