About ISPB


The Institute of Systems and Physical Biology (ISPB) of Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL) is dedicated to advancing basic biomedical research, with a focus on fundamental systems biology challenges. Systems biology integrates computational methods—such as molecular dynamics simulations and mathematical modeling—with biophysical and biochemical experiments, as well as various high-throughput omics techniques to investigate structure-function relations of living organisms at systems level. This approach aims to unveil the underlying principles that are difficult to study in the traditional biological research.

Key research areas include:

- AI and Big Data

- Systems and Information Biology (integrative genomics, epigenetics, proteomics, metabolomics, glycomics, etc.)

- Mechano-biology

- Physical Biology (photobiology, imaging, artificial biosystems, biological synthesis)

Institute Director for ISPB


SZBL is currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated leader for ISPB. The Institute Director will play a pivotal role in academic leadership, strategic vision, faculty & staff management, financial & administrative oversight, research & institutional growth, external relations & advocacy, and student success & engagement. This is a global recruitment effort, open to talented candidates worldwide. We sincerely invite nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Director for ISPB.

Qualifications


Academic Excellence

  • 1. Internationally recognized expertise ingenomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, computational biology or related disciplines.

  • 2. Typically holds a tenured Full Professor or equivalent position.

Leadership and Administrative Experience

  • 1. Proven experience as Department Chair, Associate Dean, or Director of a major program.

  • 2. Formulate institutional strategic plan, spearhead disciplinary development.

  • 3. Recruit, mentor, evaluate and retain diverse faculty, as well as administrative staff.

  • 4. Drive flagship research initiatives to enhance academic impact and global standing, foster international partnerships.

  • 5. Optimize resource allocation efficacy including financial management, fundraising, and grant acquisition.

  • 6. Ability to work with the leadership team, external partners, alumni, and industry stakeholders to amplify scholarly and societal influence.
