From May 23 to 24, 2024, the Institute of Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders at Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL) successfully hosted its 2ndAnnual Academic Conference in Shenzhen. A continuation of the inaugural event held two years ago, the conference aimed to gather experts, scholars, and young researchers from SZBL and the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation (SMART) to present their latest research findings, explore potential collaborations, and discuss cutting-edge issues in their fields. The event featured keynote speeches, presentations by young researchers, and an academic poster session, attracting nearly 200 participants.

On Day 1 of the conference, seventeen Principal Investigators (PIs) delivered themed presentations. Among them were Dr. Wang Yanzhuang, Dr. Yang Jian, Dr. Nobuhiko Yamamoto, Dr. Chen Zhoufeng, Dr. Chu Tingting, Dr. Zhang Ke, Dr. Yao Yuanyuan, Dr. Jiang Xian, Dr. Peng Qiyu, Dr. Li Fenfang, Dr. Zhang Zhe, Dr. Ma Chenyan, Dr. Yuan Wen, Dr. Zhang Bo, Dr. Wu Lin, Dr. Guo Tengfei, and Dr. Gan Wenbiao. They shared their latest research progress and plans on topics including neurological and psychiatric disorders, neuroimmunology, neurodevelopment, learning and memory, and imaging technology applications. The captivating presentations resonated with the audience of young researchers and students from the laboratory, sparking lively discussions and fostering collaborations among attendees.

Day 2 featured presentations by young researchers. Sixteen representatives from various teams took the stage: Dr. Qiao Qian and Dr. Yuan Deliang from Gan Wenbiao's team, Wen Jieqi from Chen Zhoufeng's team, Dr. Li Yali from Nobuhiko Yamamoto's team, Dr. Hou Fanjia and Dr. Deng Qiannan from Zhang Ke's team, Zhao Ming and Wu Shaohua from Jiang Xian's team, Dr. Tang Huayuan and Ni Yun from Wu Lin's team, Yan Wankun and Wu Yanglin from Yuan Wen's team, Lu Zijun and Peng Lizhi from Zhang Zhe's team, and Dr. Liang Tuo and Dr. Qin Liming from Zhang Bo's team. They presented their project progress and findings, showcasing rich content and clear viewpoints, which highlighted their research passion and collaborative spirit.
Complementing the keynote presentations, this annual meeting featured a dedicated academic poster session, showcasing the breadth and depth of neuroscience research within the Institute. Twenty-four researchers presented twenty posters, spanning a wide spectrum of topics from fundamental neuroscience to the development of applied technologies. These visually compelling posters effectively conveyed the researchers' latest research progress and plans to the judges and attendees. Visitors actively engaged with the poster presenters, exchanging insights and discussing research questions, fostering a vibrant and intellectually stimulating atmosphere.
Subsequently, the judges evaluated and presented awards for the reports and posters submitted by young researchers. In the report category, Dr. Qiao Qian earned the first prize, while Dr. Deng Qiannan and Dr. Qin Liming received the second prize. The third prize was awarded to Dr. Li Yali, Zhao Ming, and Hou Fanjia. In the poster category, Han Ying took the first prize, Dr. Zhang Feilong, Dr. Liang Nansong, and Jia Xiaoli secured the second prize, and Li Cong, Yang Hao, and Hou Fanjia won third prize. These sessions not only provided a platform for young researchers to showcase their work but also facilitated face-to-face interactions and learning opportunities with experts and scholars.
This annual academic conference of the Institute of Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders provided a high-level platform for researchers to exchange ideas and collaborate. It expanded academic perspectives, inspired insightful ideas, and fostered greater opportunities for in-depth collaboration among research teams, thus injecting new vitality into the Institute's development.
