The conference focused on four themes: vector biology, Interaction between pathogen and vector, interaction among pathogen-vector-host, and prevention and control of vector-borne infectious diseases and vector-borne plant diseases. Academician Chen Jianping, Professor Li Yi of Peking University and more than 30 other senior experts, who came from Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Agricultural University, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Academy of Military Sciences, Army Medical University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Xiamen University, Southern Medical University, Southwest University, Hainan University, Fujian Agricultural and Forestry University, South China Agricultural University, Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Institute of Infectious Diseases of SZBL, were specially invited and brought to the audience a wonderful latest research progress report.

Infectious diseases transmitted by vector insects account for more than 17% of all infectious diseases, causing hundreds of millions of infections and millions of deaths every year.

At the same time, 80% of plant viruses are transmitted by insect vectors, causing agricultural production losses of up to 60 billion US dollars every year. It has become a major threat to the high-yield stability in agriculture, and a major biosafety and food security challenge that China and the whole world must face.

Top experts and scholars who have made a series of significant progress in the research of insect-borne infectious diseases in China gathered at this conference, and they jointly discussed the key issues of controlling insect-borne diseases from multiple perspectives, deeply studied the interaction between vector insects and pathogens, and revealed the natural law of insect vectors carrying and transmitting pathogens.

This conference further built a platform for exchanges and cooperation, provided new ideas and methods for the research and prevention and control of vector-borne viruses, and improved the prevention and control ability and research level of insect-borne infectious diseases in Shenzhen and even the whole country.

Finally, Professor Li Yi of Peking University summarized the conference. He pointed out that the reports given in this conference were brilliant and rich in species, which provided a good academic exchange platform for the majority of scientific researchers and fully reflected the new progress and achievements in the field of prevention and control of vector-borne pathogens in recent years.

It is expected that the discipline of vector-borne pathogens will develop better and young talent will develop faster.
