To attract talents and strengthen the construction of the Laboratory talent echelon, the 2022 Shenzhen Bay Laboratory International Young Scholars Online Forum aims to promote the introduction of talents at all levels in fields related to life sciences. It is held in the form of "main forum + sub forum". On September 3rd, the Laboratory held two global live broadcast activities of the main forum, which attracted more than 8,000 views of young scholars at home and abroad.
Academician Wu Yun-Dong, Executive Vice Director of the Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL), delivered an opening speech. Academician Wu pointed out that biomedicine and life and health are important links in modern society and also the important scientific research direction of Guangming Science City. Founded more than three years ago, the SZBL is committed to the research and development of life sciences and biomedicine. With the vision of establishing a first-class scientific research platform, the Laboratory gathers top talents in biomedicine, carries out innovative basic research, clinical needs and industrial docking application research and development, and promotes the development of biomedical industry. The Laboratory focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tumors, neurological diseases, infectious diseases and metabolic cardiovascular diseases, and strives to build a full-process innovation ecological chain of "Basic Research + Technical Breakthrough + Achievement Transformation + Science and Technology Finance + Talent Support". It has introduced more than 100 scientific research teams, gathered nearly 200 high-level talents of all kinds, and the full-time rate of scientific research personnel is nearly 80%. A large number of young talents have been supported by national talent projects and excellent talent projects. It is hoped that young scholars participating in the conference can join the Laboratory or cooperate with the Laboratory, advance hand in hand in different forms, make contributions to a better world and make life more brilliant.
Tan Yi, Director of Talent Bureau of Guangming District, delivered an opening speech. She pointed out that as the Pilot Zone for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Comprehensive National Science Center, Guangming Science City will strive to create a source of original innovation, a pilot zone in scientific research economy, and a gathering place for innovative talents. Talents are the source of development that Guangming Science City craves. Director Tan proposed that Guangming Science City is a hot land with surging innovation momentum, with intensive layout of universities, scientific research institutes and large scientific devices; Guangming Science City is an urban area with a warm people's livelihood. The district government focuses on solving the worries of talents in education, medical care and housing; Guangming Science City recently has launched the "Talent Highland Plan" to provide the most comprehensive guarantee for innovation and entrepreneurship. Young scholars attending the conference are expected to choose Shenzhen Bay Laboratory and Guangming Science City.
Researcher Zhang Xinhao, Assistant of Director and Chief Human Resources Officer (concurrently) of SZBL , introduced the basic situation of the development and construction of the Laboratory and the needs for talent introduction; Researcher Zheng Bo, Chief Core Facilities Officer of SZBL, introduced the construction of the core facilities platform.
Representatives of each institute/center, such as Researcher Shen Snow, Deputy Director of Institute of Cancer Research; Researcher Gan Wenbiao, Director of Institute of Institute of Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders; Dr. Liu Yang, Junior Principal Investigator of Institute of Infectious Diseases; Researcher Zhou Yaoqi, Deputy Director of Institute of Systems and Physical Biology; Researcher Yan Zhiqiang, Deputy Director of Institute of Molecular Physiology; Researcher Peng Qiyu, Deputy Director of Institute of Biomedical Engineering; Dr. Yin Yandong, Junior Principal Investigator of Institute of Chemical Biology; Researcher Shen Weijun, Director of Centre of Translational Research; Researcher He Yun, Director of BayRay Innovation Center, made detailed introductions on research direction, team building, scientific research, planning and development (including recruitment needs), etc.
The four talent representatives including Dr. Justin L. Tan, Junior Principal Investigator of Institute of Cancer Research; Dr. Zhang Bo, Junior Principal Investigator of Institute of Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders; Dr. Tsai, Yu-Hsuan, Junior Principal Investigator of Institute of Molecular Physiology; Dr. Chen Zhicheng, Senior Researcher of Centre of Translational Research, shared their experiences in education background, work experience, research fields, laboratory career development and social security.
