On December 17, SZBL and Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) held the first academic workshop and the signing ceremony of cooperation between SZBL and the Seventh Affiliated Hospital, SYSU (SAHSYSU). SZBL leadership, Wu Yun-Dong and Tu Huan included, as well as He Yulong, Dean to the SYSU School of Medicine and President to SAHSYSU, Chen Qikun, Deputy Party Chief of SAHSYSU, and You Zhangao, Deputy Party Chief of SAHSYSU, attended the ceremony. SAHSYSU Research Center Deputy Director Zhu Chengming presided over the event.

The academic workshop was part of the effort to promote the synergy between scientific research and clinical practice. Researchers from SYSU, SAHSYSU and SZBL were brought together and the gathering benefited exchanges that cover a wide-ranging of medical topics including tumor, neurological diseases, infection and immunology, innovation and clinical transformation. The cooperation was signed before the workshop.

In delivering remarks, He Yulong said that the SAHSYSU Research Center is now a strong team with closer to 200 researchers and it pursues full-scope development of all scientific platforms, with distinctive focus on the provincial key laboratory of gastrointestinal cancers. He also said that the center has all along emphasized the clinical-based synchronization of clinical practice and scientific research and aims to lead leapfrog development of clinical research.

Taking the opportunity, Wu Yun-Dong congratulated on the 3rd anniversary of the founding of the SAHSYSU research center. He pointed out that SZBL and SAHSYSU can further tap cooperation potential regarding key links and areas in major cancer, infectious diseases, core clinical technologies and so forth. Wu expressed positive outlook on the partnership, saying that the locational advantages and resource complementarity of the two sides will bring about cooperative outcomes to a higher level.

Wang Ruzhi, an official of the Guangming District sci-tech innovation service center, also spoke on the event and expressed anticipation towards the cooperation of two sides to accelerate the growth of the medical industry in the district.

SZBL Vice Director Tu Huan and SAHSYSU Vice President Pan Yihan signed the documents on behalf of the two sides.

After the signing, thematic reports were presented by speakers from the two sides. SZBL senior PIs Niu Tianye and Yan Zhiqiang, junior PIs Zhang Bo, Guo Tengfei, Zhang Lei and Zheng Min delivered reports.
