The SZBL collaborated with the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT) to organize the 2021 Shenzhen Bay PET Molecular Imaging Technology and Clinical Application Forum on December 19, 2021. With the aim to enhance cross-cutting exchange from scientific research to bedside, this forum created an occasion for more than 100 participants to engage in report and dialogue on the integration of scientific technology and clinical practices. Fifteen thematic reports were presented by invited experts, clinical doctors and engineers. SZBL Vice Director Tu Huan attended the forum. SZBL Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBE) Senior PI Peng Qiyu chaired the event.

Tu Huan delivered a welcome speech and introduced the interdisciplinary competitiveness of SZBL. This was enriched by Dr. Peng Qiyu, who in his part to open the forum, highlighted the the research progress and coming plans of the IBE in PET-related hardware material, device and equipment, and information technology R&D. Wei Long, a Principal Investigator from the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, also spoke and extended wishes towards future PET cooperation among relevant institutions and the success of the forum.

At the thematic reports, Thomas Budinger, an US academician from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, shared the development history of PET molecular imaging technology and also his outlook on the future trend of PET technology and clinical applications. Professor William Jagust of the University of California, Berkeley, Professor Chen Biao and Professor Han Ying of Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University presented on the scientific advances and application trends of PET technology in neurodegenerative diseases. Professor Feng Qianjin, Dean to the School of Biomedical Engineering of Southern Medical University, sheded light on the application scenarios of AI technology in medical image analysis. Professor Liu Huafeng from Zhejiang University, Professor Peng Hao from Wuhan University, Principal Investigator Huang Xianchao from the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Wu Jing from Beijing Normal University, and Principal Investigator Hu Zhanli from the SIAT talked on the image reconstruction algorithm and interdisciplinary application of PET technology. The forum was also committed to facilitating deep interaction among the industry, academia, and research communities. Representatives from several leading PET R&D companies joined and shared on the various fronts of PET systems and probes.

As a high level exchange platform, the 2021 Shenzhen Bay PET Molecular Imaging Technology and Clinical Application Forum gathered PET experts and scholars from both the technological and clinical sides to create synergy and cooperation opportunity for academic development combining industrial innovation. It was also a response to the national initiative of mass entrepreneurship and innovation.
Dr. Peng Qiyu said that the forum as achieved satisfactory results by bringing together PET leading peoples for an in-depth exchange. It is hoped that the future work of the forum can further enhance collaborative ties among experts on both the technological and clinical sides, promote connectivity and integration of PET R&D and clinical demands, and let nuclear medicine and PET technology play a bigger role in our mission of delivering greater science and better health.
