SZBL held Young Scientists Symposium on March 19. Zhan Qimin, Director of SZBL, Wu Yun-Dong, Executive Vice Director of SZBL, Hu Xiaojun, Secretary of the SZBL Party Committee, and representatives from SZBL research institutes attended the symposium. The meeting conducted in-depth exchanges around the themes of talent development and research cooperation, sorted out problems and aimed to seek common development.
Zhan Qimin said that the “four orientations” put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping pointed out the direction for technological innovation in this new era. The development of SZBL is facing an great historical opportunity. The laboratory started from scratch with the goal to build a world-class research institution with new model. The foothold underpinning our innovative approach is a research management mechanism that centers around the growth and needs of our scientists. The aspirations of the laboratory and the scientists share common destination. The laboratory will be duty-bound to support each member in the SZBL community on this journey.

Zhan Qimin also expressed his expectations for the young scientists, saying that to do research well one should establish long-term and affected goals, cultivate innovative and pioneering thinking, delivery technology transfer in terms of practical demands and be initiative in cross-disciplinary research activities.

The meeting also heard the young scientists sharing personal views on various aspects. From bold and innovative research ideas, clinical and industrial cooperation, funding program application, to research and general services, the young scientists exchanged opinions with laboratory leadership in a constructive way. The leadership of SZBL encouraged the young scientists to uphold the innovator spirit of Shenzhen, and to foster a more favorable research culture for the advancement of SZBL.
