
On June 18, Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL) held the Settle-In Ceremony to its new site at the Guangming Gaoke International Innovation Center. The ceremony was attended by high ranking officials from provincial and municipal governments, leadership of SZBL, representatives from SZBL's partner institutes and experts from related fields. The ceremony represented the unfolding of a new chapter of SZBL.

Shenzhen Municipality Vice Secretary-general LI Zhuowen officiated the ceremony. SZBL Director ZHAN Qimin, Guangming District Mayor LIU Sheng, and Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province Deputy Director-general ZHENG Haitao, delivered remarks respectively. ZHAN Qimin summerized the progress of SZBL. He said the settle-in to Guangming District marks a milestone in the history of SZBL and that the laboratory will continue to engage in the dual development of the Greater Bay Area and Shenzhen as a pilot demonstration zone based on its scientific strengths.

LIU Sheng spoke about the established status of the biomedical sector in Shenzhen. He hoped that SZBL can take an active role to lead the development of the biomedical industry in Guangming District, and contribute more efforts for Shenzhen to become a global hub in biosciences.

ZHENG Haitao fully affirmed the comprehensive progress of SZBL over last year. He said that the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province will continue to support SZBL with its future construction. He also extended anticipation that SZBL takes on higher scientific missions based on this new partnership with Guangming District, aiming at larger contribution towards biomedical development for the Greater Bay Area and China as a whole.

The ceremony reached the highest peak when the settle-in is officially announced. Guangdong Province Deputy Director-general ZHENG Haitao, Shenzhen Municipality Vice Secretary-general LI Zhuowen, Science, Technology and Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality Party Leadership Group Secretary QIU Xuan, SZBL Executive Vice Director WU Yun-Dong and Pengcheng Laboratory Director GAO Wen, together witnessing this important moment.

Earlier that day, SZBL held the 2nd Session of Institutes & Centers Joint Meeting. Academic leads from SZBL institutes and centers gathered to discuss research and planning issues for the laboratory.
