February 23, Chinese President XI Jinping delivered an important speech at a meeting to advance the work on coordinating the prevention and control of the COVID-19 and economic and social development, in Beijing, China. On the meeting, President Xi stressed orderly resumption of work and production and made specific requirements to that end. To put in place Xi’s instructions and to transmit the deployment from the CPC Shenzhen District Committee and the Shenzhen Municipal Work Committee of Agencies Directly Under Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC regarding the prevention and control to the COVID-19, CPC Party branch of SZBL held a meeting on February 27 to sum up and deploy staged agendas for recent work. ZHAN Qimin, Director of SZBL, presided over the telemeeting.
The meeting recapped on the recent efforts SZBL had made on fighting coronavirus, including collaborative emergency programs launched with the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen and the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention to jointly develop biomedical solutions to the disease.
SZBL has been actively echoing government instructions in an effort to contain and slow the spread of the epidemic. Emergency notices were issued and documents from government authorities are transmitted to better deliver useful and timely messages to the employees. To minimize the impact on work while continuously moving forward the laboratory’s scientific mission, research members and staff of the laboratory flexibly shifted on-site work and adopted teleworking to maximize social distancing. So far, the laboratory has no report on any novel coronavirus cases.
SZBL and the CPC Party Branch of SZBL were responding to the impact of the epidemic. It is noteworthy that Party members of SZBL have been connecting with local communities and engaging with social services against the coronavirus. Moreover, the laboratory has opened a new column on its Wechat official account since January 31 to deliver research latests on COVID-19 on a daily basis. Up till now, 30 updates were posted regarding this topic. The laboratory also calls on its people to keep attention to any latest information of COVID-19, stabilize mindset and not to believe falsified reports. SZBL would keep on following research on COVID-19 and posting the updates in a timely manner to help dispel misinformation on coronavirus.
Confronting the complex situation of the epidemic, the CPC branch of SZBL will keep active responses to the CPC central in implementing the decisions and policies in combating the coronavirus epidemic. The Party branch of SZBL as well as its Party members will give full play to the role of exemplary vanguard, work to gather scientific and intellectual strengths, and launch all-out efforts with the determination to fight and win the battle against the epidemic.
