August 6 saw the signing of a collaboration agreement between Shenzhen Pingshan District People’s Government and Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL) at the opening ceremony of the Shenzhen High-tech Industrial Park (Pingshan). Senior government leaders and SZBL officials attended the ceremony.

WANG Lixin, Vice Mayor of Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, delivered speech for the opening session, along with TAO Yongxin, Secretary of Pingshan District Committee of the CPC of Shenzhen.

The agreement signifies the official launch of the Pingshan Translational Medicine Center (hereinafter as PTMC), SZBL. PTMC will serve as a critical basis for SZBL in nurturing technology transfer and piloting scientific projects, and will drive missions in exploring new institutional and structural models for SZBL.

On signing this agreement, Pingshan District People’s Government and PTMC will establish closer linkage for developing translational biomedicine. With a sharpened focus on innovative drug discovery and core technologies, the newly-launched center will strive to foster academia-industry collaboration, facilitate upper- and lower-stream enterprises, and nurture spin-off companies. It will also seek to accelerate transformation of core technologies, creating a more favorable ecosystem that enables innovation in treatments for major diseases.

The launch of the PTMC will give full play to the competitiveness of Pingshan of its industrial intensiveness as well as local policy support. PTMC will engine frontier transformative research of SZBL as a whole, and will improve the comprehensive capacity and long-term competitiveness of Pingshan in making biomedical discovery and transformation.

The collaboration between Shenzhen Pingshan District People’s Government and SZBL will create an important driving force for Shenzhen to boost biomedical industry in the Greater Bay Area, and will help to stimulate comprehensive and flagship effect for the Greater Bay Area to excel in the international arena.
