On July 15, Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL) welcomed Shenzhen Vice Mayor NIE Xinping and his delegation for an investigative study on the laboratory’s latest progress. SZBL senior leadership including WU Yun-Dong, HU Xiaojun and TU Huan received Vice Mayor and his delegates. Relevant government leaders joined the investigative study.

Shenzhen Vice Mayor NIE Xinping and the delegation visited the SZBL exhibition hall and lab areas, and had detailed discussion with SZBL scientists on the research that are currently run, particularly those aim to combat COVID-19.

As a part of the investigative study, all parties attended a meeting to further discuss the development of SZBL. Shenzhen Vice Mayor NIE Xinping chaired the meeting. SZBL Executive Vice Director WU Yun-Dong provided briefing on the comprehensive development, research agenda, talent acquisition, and construction of the laboratory.


Vice Mayor NIE Xinping commented that SZBL has been demonstrating the role of a pioneer in its development. He expected that SZBL continue its science mission to address national demands for better health with solutions to shift major disease burdens from our population. He also pointed out that SZBL should maintain efforts in improving management mechanisms and convening global intellectual strengths to break through boundaries of sciences and conduct world-class research. Government at all levels would continue policy support and improve innovation resources to facilitate SZBL’s development, said Shenzhen Vice Mayor NIE Xinping.
