LIN Jianhua Led SZBL Delegation to Guangming Science Town

A Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL) delegation visited the Guangming Science Town, Guangming, Shenzhen on April 10, 2019. The delegation was led by LIN Jianhua, the Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress, SZBL Special Advisor and Former President of Peking University and WU Yun-Dong, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The overall planning of the Guangming Science Town and construction progress of the major infrastructure was introduced to the SZBL delegation during the visit. Joint by WANG Hongbin, the Secretary of Guangming District Committee of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and the other officials, the SZBL delegation visited the exhibition hall of Guangming Sci. Town and watched media display and the sand table models. Specifications on the construction progress and overall planning of the Town was also given during this field study. The overall planning of the Guangming Science Town and construction progress of the major infrastructure was introduced to the SZBL delegation during the visit.

Joint by WANG Hongbin, the Secretary of Guangming District Committee of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and the other officials, the SZBL delegation visited the exhibition hall of Guangming Sci. Town and watched media display and the sand table models. Specifications on the construction progress and overall planning of the Town was also given during this field study.

With a “one core and zones” spacial layout, the Guangming Sci. Town will cover a land area of 99 square metre as planned. The core part of the Sci. Town will include downtown area, infrastructure park, industrial transfer zone and the surrounding natural landscape by forests and waters. The two-zone area will be home to clusters of scientific facilities, education institutes and innovation-oriented industries. Grounded on a global perspective, the overall planning of Guangming Sci. Town will stay committed to China’s national strategy guidelines and actively addressing the needs from the construction of a comprehensive Sci&Tech center nationally. It will develop capacity for accommodating world-class science infrastructure while delivering application-oriented, frontier and trans-disciplinary research and projecting major science schemes. The synergistic effect will be generated to facilitate innovation in technology, industrialization, mechanics, operation mode as well as future reforms. The first batch of major scientific infrastructures planning to move into the Town includes Brain Analysis and Brain Simulation Facility, Synthesis Biology Facility, Material Genomics Facility, Space-based Gravitational Wave (GW) Observatory Facility, Precision Medicine Imaging Facility and Space Physic Interactive Facility. The Brian Analysis and Brain Simulation Facility and Synthesis Biology Facility have commenced construction since January this year.

SZBL works to organize cross-cutting advanced life sciences resources from PKU and GBA. With research spans bio-information, innovative drugs and medical engineering, SZBL will be supportively engaged in the coming construction on the Brian Analysis and Brain Simulation Facility, Synthesis Biology Facility as well as the Precision Medicine Imaging Facility.

LIN Jianhua fully recognized the construction plan of the Guangming Sci. Town. In his perspective, Guangming District is embracing a promising future with developmental plan, talent policy and infrastructure construction all making progresses concurrently.

The Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government has mapped out this new path for Guangming to develop, with a vision to settle in a world-class science park and to create a new pillar for northern Shenzhen. Guangming is breaking new ground for a fresh start and is gaining unprecedented momentum to leap. The planning and construction of Guangming Sci. Town is currently being effectively expedited and the Town itself will expect to accommodate high-end institutes and frontier scientific platforms in the future. Guangming Sci.
